MIT Mixed Doubles Teams Dominate Play
MIDDLEBURY - Two of the three adult Mixed Doubles based at Middlebury Indoor Tennis finished the Fall 2006 Season with perfect records, and will move on to the New England Sectional tournaments late in the spring of 2007.
Chris Murray of Middlebury led the advanced-intermediate "Aces" to a 6-0 record over two separate teams from Rutland and one team from West River. Each meeting consisted of three matches for a total of eighteen, only one of which was lost. Other team members are Curt and Sharon Gross, John Ballard, Roger Kimberly (all Middlebury), and Carrie Wulfman (Ripton), Karen Didricksen (Bridport), Michele Butler (Bristol), Bob Kesner (Waltham).
Stephanie Foley of New Haven asembled a broad-based team at the advanced level, the "Hicks and Chicks," with eleven out-of-area players from Danby, Essex Jct., Jerico, Mendon, Pittsford, Rutland, Waterbury; and four from the Middlebury area. Their record of eight wins and no losses was compiled against two teams from Burlington, one from Essex Junction, and one from Brattleboro. Only four of the 24 individual matches ended with a loss. Local players on the "Hicks" besides captain Stephanie are Jim Foley (New Haven), Rachel Teachout and Sarah Peluso of Cornwall, and Peter Junggren of Leicester.
A third team, also practicing weekly at Middleubry Indoor Tennis, was formed at the near-professional level by double-captain Foley, the "Ball Bangers." In four meetings with the same Burlington team there was one win, so no post-season action is expected.

MIDDLEBURY - Two of the three adult Mixed Doubles based at Middlebury Indoor Tennis finished the Fall 2006 Season with perfect records, and just returned from the New England Sectional tournaments in Portland, ME, June 22-24.
The advanced-intermediate "Aces" won 2 out of 3 encounters in the preliminary round to become one of 8 teams in the quarterfinals. That match was completedly decided by 10-point tie-breakers in place of a thrid set, so just a few points going the wrong way mean the Aces had to go home after a 1-2 loss.
The advanced level "Hicks and Chicks" also went 2-2, but were unable to advance to the final rounds.
