MIT named the
2004 Outstanding Private Tennis Facility
in New England
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has named Middlebury Indoor Tennis (MIT) one of 15 Outstanding Tennis Facilities in the USA for 2004. MIT is the only facility selected in New England in the "private" category (as opposed to Collegiate and Municipal facilities).
MIT receives a wooden wall plaque to be mounted on the the building.
There will be an inscription on the Facility Award Plaque displayed in the lobby of the National Tennis Center, home of the US Open. Some details regarding MIT and the award are as follows.

Three New England Facilities Win USTA Awards

The USTA has announced the 15 recipients of the 2004 Outstanding Facility Awards, and three of those sites are in New England. The USTA's Outstanding Facility Awards program, now in its 23rd year, encourages higher standards for the construction and/or renovation of public tennis facilities throughout the country.

Outstanding Tennis Facilities Named in Four Categories

The USTA has announced the 15 recipients of the 2004 Outstanding Facility Awards, and three of those sites are in New England. The USTA's Outstanding Facility Awards program, now in its 23rd year, encourages higher standards for the construction and/or renovation of public tennis facilities throughout the country.
Selection was based upon the following criteria:
  1. overall layout and adaptation to site;

  2. excellence of court surface and lights;

  3. ease of maintenance;

  4. accommodations for players, spectators and press/officials;

  5. aesthetics including graphics, use of signs, landscaping, etc.;

  6. amenities such as casual seating for spectators, food services, and social areas; and

  7. programs supporting the USTA and growth of the game.

The following winners will receive a wooden wall plaque to be mounted on the outside of each facility, a complimentary one-year organizational membership to the USTA, and an inscription on the Facility Award plaque displayed in the lobby of the National Tennis Center, home of the US Open.
Private - 4 Recipients
Collegiate - 4 Recipients
Small (2-10 courts) - 4 Recipients
Large (11 or more courts) - 3 Recipients

"Their diligence and commitment ensures that our mission to promote and develop the growth of tennis will continue."
